How to Be Successful in Every Area of Life: Day Zero

What’s the Price of Success?

Success is hard and that’s OK. If you’re able to take anything away from this post and apply it to your life, take that; Hard work is OK. Feeling uncomfortable in a situation is OK. Being scared is OK.

I would go even further to say that you should seek out these situations, because this is how you grow. This is how you become successful.

Many times we give up before we even start. Or we give up as soon as we feel some resistance. Did you know that a muscle can’t grow without resistance? You’re the same way. If you don’t have some push back or some obstacles you can’t grow.

I say embrace it all. I’m a husband and a father of three, young children. Every single day is a struggle. If you’re a parent you know where I’m coming from. If you don’t have any kids yet, don’t rush! I’m joking, but I’m serious at the same time.

At this point in my life every decision I make has the potential to help or hurt my family. My risks have to be more calculated. Sometimes the pressure feels overwhelming. But you know what? I can’t give up and I️ can’t leave. So I️ keep pushing and I️ keep looking for ways to improve.

How Do You Define Success?

Success means different things to different people. Some would define it as having a nice car, a nice house and lots of money. Others might define success as being able to pursue their passions in life.

For me, I define success in a very simple way; meeting or exceeding the goals I set for myself. Over the past 30 years, I’ve experienced success and I’ve experience failure. I’ve come to realize you can’t have one without the other.

In my past successes, my confidence was strengthened and my value of planning and hard work increased. In my past failures, I learned what it means to be persistent and how to adjust fire to reach a target.

If you truly desire success, in any area of life, you have to ask yourself these three questions;

  1. Where am I now?

Take an honest inventory of where you currently stand. Think about what motivates you and what you have achieved thus far. Access your skills, talents, interests and resources.

  1. Where do I want to be?

Identify the goal or goals you want to achieve. Be specific and give your goals a time-frame. Decide what constitutes success.

  1. How do I get there?

Take your skills, talents and resources you have available and start building your plan. This is where the rubber meets the road. Once you have a plan, don’t wait. Start now!

When we want to reach success, in any area of life, we must clearly define the goals we want to reach. And… with unwavering belief, we must strive towards those goals.

Are you chasing success? Are you already successful? In the comments below, all the way at the bottom, let me know what your definition of success is.
